Lysol products – An Alternative to Chlorine in disinfecting Public Places

Lysol products

The EPA has accepted two Lysol products for disinfection as effective against the recently identified novel chromic virus when used on non-porous, hard surfaces. Both Lysol Disinfectant Spray and Lysol Max Cover Mist fulfill the EPA’s guidelines for disinfection against the SARS-coV-2, a virus implicated in the current pandemic, according to laboratory testing which found both products effectively kill the virus… Both products are registered with the EPA as safe for general use. They are both effective at reducing the prevalence of VVC and controlling the microorganism association with the disease.

As a disinfectant, Lysol disinfects surfaces and liquids but more importantly it eliminates pathogens in the atmosphere. Because of this, Lysol products are particularly valuable in the home, particularly in areas where there is a risk of exposure to infectious aerosols, vapors and other noxious substances. In the home, it is especially important to make sure surfaces are properly cleaned and thoroughly dry before using any type of chemical cleaning supplies to avoid spreading or adding to the conditions which cause outbreaks. Lysol products are particularly well suited for cleaning and disinfecting soft surfaces like fabric, linoleum and couches, counter tops, showers, tables and appliances. Another advantage is that Lysol products are available in liquid and powder forms, making them easier to use and less messy and more environmentally friendly. Additionally, they have the added benefit of not requiring a separate cleanup stage when used in conjunction with other cleaning supplies.

With Lysol Products, you can clean and disinfect nearly any surface. The most common routes of exposure for the SARS virus are contact with an affected individual’s hands or coming into direct contact with a surface that has had contact with the patient’s hands or other surfaces contaminated with their secretions. Because of this, it is particularly important to maintain personal hygiene by using quality hand soaps and Lysol products that specifically target the germ associated with SARS and other contagious diseases. Using quality Lysol based multi-surface cleaner will go a long way towards maintaining a safe environment in which to work or play.

The safe handling and use of Lysol based solutions have been established through rigorous studies. In the laboratory, researchers have found that Lysol is at least as effective as the commercial disinfectants that we use on a day-to-day basis. Furthermore, Lysol is highly toxic when swallowed or absorbed through the skin and mucous membranes. This is why it is restricted at health facilities and other institutions as a primary agent in the treatment of Hepatitis A virus (HAV). In the case of a potential pandemic, it would be prudent to keep liquid and gaseous forms of the drug away from the general public due to the risk of contamination.

One of the most recent studies performed on Lysol and its proven safety record came from the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. In a report released in March of 2021, the center revealed that Lysol was not only an effective and safe solution for cleaning up bodily fluids during a flu pandemic but was also safe and effective in cleaning up other contagious and transmittable forms of viruses like the Hepatitis A virus, the Q fever virus and the Streptococcus virus. Additionally, the parent company of Lysol committed to the immediate manufacture of an additional 13 million gallons of lysol for use in treating the currently reported pandemic outbreaks.

There are several other healthcare organizations and federal agencies that have agreed that the combination of a Hepatitis A+ B anti-viral wash with an insecticide is more effective than either disinfection with water or a broad spectrum or strong antiseptic. To date, there have been no documented cases of patients experiencing adverse reactions from either Lysol disinfectants or the Lysol product in question. Furthermore, researchers have conclusively determined that they are safe for use on non-porous surface areas. So whether you are dealing with hard or soft surfaces Lysol products are an excellent and affordable option.
