What are the ways to apply for Canadian immigration?

There are four main classes allowed for Canadian immigration. These are the skilled worker, family, and business classes. The fourth is as a temporary worker or student.

The skilled worker class, or point system, is the most popular class to apply under. Applicants receive different amounts of points based on their age, education, work experience, and their command of English or French. Points can also be awarded if a person has found a job or is already working in Canada. Additional points can be awarded for factors such as a partner’s qualifications or whether a person had previously studied in Canada for at least two years. Special considerations are made for people who have family members already living in Canada.

For Canadian immigration under the family class, a person must have a Canadian resident relative who is eligible and willing to be their sponsor. These sponsors must have a Canadian passport or be a permanent resident. These include a husband or wife, spousal or common-law partner, dependent children, a parent or grandparent. It can also be an orphan sister or brother, nephew, niece or grandchild under 19 years of age. Any family member who currently has no other relatives living in Canada can also be a sponsor. In most cases, the typical family class application is made by people who are currently engaged or married to citizens of Canada.

Canadian immigration applicants applying in the business class will be divided into three sub-categories which are the investor, the self employed and the entrepreneur. Those wishing to apply for immigration in the self-employed category will need to provide a business plan that has been extensively researched, possess sufficient capital and a good deal of solid experience to establish a Canadian company. The entrepreneur’s net worth must be a minimum of C $ 300,000 and he must have prior experience in a qualified business. Within three years of arrival, the entrepreneur will have to establish or purchase a business that creates at least one new job that is full-time for a citizen of Canada. An investor’s net worth must be a minimum of C $ 800,000 and they will be required to make an investment of C $ 400,000 of that value in the General Receiver of Canada for a period of 5 years.

Temporary visas for Canadian immigration are allowed for students or workers. These workers must be presented with a job offer that could not otherwise be accepted by a Canadian. The work permit is issued for the duration of employment, which does not usually exceed three years. Canadian employers are hesitant to hire foreign workers unless they have some skill advantage or there is a labor shortage. Most of the workers on a temporary visa were transferred to Canada from their current employer. Students who enroll in a qualified Canadian institution have the option of submitting an application for a student visa. This allows the student to study full time and work limited hours.
