Advantages and disadvantages of a concrete kitchen countertop

I have noticed that many readers of EzineArticles.com are very interested in the advantages and disadvantages of kitchen countertops, so this is my second article on kitchen countertops and I would like to talk about concrete countertops. advantage:


o It can look rough, rough and raw or smooth and refined.

o It can be colored before being molded.

o Surfaces are waterproof, alcohol resistant, non-yellowing and antimicrobial, as well as having good heat resistance and excellent wear properties.

o If poured on site, it is seamless, making it perfect for large areas or long runs.

o Easy to clean with mild soap and water (avoid ammonia and bleach).

o Suitable for undermount sinks, integral sinks and drain slots.

o Concrete kitchen countertops exude quality and are suitable for a modern kitchen or a contemporary kitchen.



Disadvantages:


o It needs professional installation as it does not support DIY.

o It is heavy, so your units and flooring must be strong enough to support the weight. Some installer may require all cabinets, including the island, to be screwed to the wall and floor.

o It is porous so it needs to be treated with a sealer and may be inspected once a year if you use it every day.

o It doesn’t absorb sound, so when you work on it it’s a bit noisy.

o Anything dropped on it is likely to break as it does not absorb any impact.

o Accessories for concrete countertops can be expensive.

o There may be some surface discoloration, if oil or acid based items are spilled and not removed in a short time.
