Computer Backup – Forget It!
backup software it’s for the birds! computer backup it’s too hard, too much trouble and a pain in the ass. Forget it.
Backup software is promoted as the savior of critical personal and business files on your computer. They claim that all computer hard drives (where our files are stored) will eventually have a 100% failure rate. They try to tell us that the failure of our hard drives is just a matter of WHEN, not IF.

BACKUP SOFTWARE – LET’S BE REAL
You and I know the real story. The real story is that new computers are so well made that they hardly ever crash, right?
So we don’t have to worry about buying backup software and setting up a computer backup system, right? It would be a waste of time, for sure!
After all, we know that all the press about hard drive failures, natural disasters, and terrorist attacks is just a conspiracy by backup software companies to get us to buy their products.
Personally, I’ve never had a hard drive failure (that I can remember). If my computer stops working for whatever reason, that’s life.
So I ignore these backup software companies trying to push their backup software products to the unsuspecting public even though they make it easy to restore data and files. I don’t give them the time of day.
So, you see, I don’t need backup software, do you? Of course not.
BACKUP SOFTWARE: STARTING OVER WITHOUT IS EASY
In the unlikely event that I have a virus or a bunch of spyware on my computers, I’ll just do whatever it takes and move on. After all, if I lost all my data to a virus, so what? Who Needs Backup Software?
Heck, I’d just buy a new computer and start over and still not need backup software because it’s too complicated.
If ALL of my business data was lost due to hard drive failure or virus corruption, I would simply start my business over again. It is not a big thing. It’s not that hard, right? Using backup software is just a pain.
BACKUP SOFTWARE MADNESS
So, by now, we all agree that using a backup software for computer backup is just for suckers, right? Right.
Who would want to use backup software that automatically and easily backs up EVERYTHING on their computer’s hard drive to a rewritable DVD or USB external hard drive? That would mean that you could easily recover from any computer disaster. That makes too much sense and is too logical.
They claim that the backup software is a virtual computer insurance policy against fire, flood, theft, earthquake, hurricane, tornado, and terrorist attack.
Nonsense!
Ridiculous.
Hey, businesses that survived Hurricane Katrina didn’t need backup software, did they? OK, OK, I admit that a lot of businesses without backup software and offsite backup lost EVERYTHING and now can’t get their data back and rebuild their business. But that is life. Now these companies and their employees can now move on to something new. How interesting!
Look, life without backup software is much more interesting.
By the way, did I tell you how much I enjoy playing Russian roulette?
Did I forget to mention my brief stay (actually it was only a few days) in the mental hospital? Ahh, that’s ancient history. Let’s go back to the present.
BACKUP SOFTWARE – PRESENT DAY
Do you want to hear something silly? My friend Ben in New Orleans owned an insurance company. He made a very good life for himself and his family. He didn’t believe in backup software either. All of his computers were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
Ben just laughed and said, “No problem, this mess gives me the chance to write the great American novel I’ve always dreamed of writing.”
What about your 10 employees and your thousands of customers who asked you? Ben said, “Hell, things always work out, don’t they?”
What about the income from the business that supported his family? they asked him. Ben said, “Oh, FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) told me we’d be taken care of and not to worry.”
Look, Ben is ready and no worse for wear and tear even though he didn’t have backup software.
BACKUP SOFTWARE LESSONS
So boys and girls, what have we learned on this topic of backup software?
* If we don’t have backup software, so what? It just makes life after a hard drive crash more interesting and fun.
* After a natural disaster destroys your computers, FEMA will fix it.
* All the fuss about backup software is just a bunch of hype to sell products.
* Just because you like to play Russian roulette, you are not really crazy.
