Easy to Follow Chicken Coop Layouts for Your Backyard Poultry

So, are you interested in raising chickens in your backyard? Well this sure is a fun, exciting and unique thing to do. You may have even noticed that not many of your neighbors are on it yet! However, if you’re going to be raising chickens, you’ll want a good shelter for them (come on, your birds deserve a good place to live). Now the dogs have their kennels and the cats their comfortable baskets; the chicken, on the other hand, when domesticated lives in “chicken coops” or “chests”. These are specially designed wooden constructions that protect them from predators like…dogs and cats and many more.

There are many things you need to know before you invest in the right kind of ark or chicken coop. Your first consideration will have to be the amount of money you have; Generally speaking, if you have less money then you will want to invest in a chicken ark which is usually designed for 2-4 birds. If you can invest more than $300 in your poultry housing efforts, then you can go for a medium or larger premium chicken coop with a coop.

Another important consideration is the number of birds you have. If your poultry consists of about 2-4 birds maximum, then a small chicken ark will suffice. These are reasonably easy to make and all you will need to build them is some wood and chicken wire. Another advantage of having a chicken ark is that they are very mobile and can be moved from one place to another. Likewise, if you have around 6 to 8 birds, you are better off going for a medium sized coop, while a bird of 10 or more birds is better off with a large premium sized coop with an attached coop.

Remember, when providing shelter for your birds, the amount of space required per chicken is 4 square feet MINIMUM! So keep that in mind before making one.
