If you are a tall driver, you may find that the standard steering wheel in your Porsche is too small for you to comfortably grip. Fortunately, most vehicles allow you to adjust the reach and tilt of the steering wheel in order to find a comfortable position.

Historically, carmakers experimented with different features for steering wheels, but many didn’t stick around more than a few models or even an entire model line. For example, some cars offered a Swing-Away steering wheel, which could be pulled away from the vehicle’s front center panel to make it easier for tall drivers to get in and out of the car.

Most modern vehicles feature a type of steering system called rack-and-pinion. This consists of a shaft leading down from the steering wheel to a round gear called the pinion. A notched rod (the rack) stretches across the width of the vehicle from the pinion, connecting the front wheels to the Buy Porsche steering wheels. When you turn the steering wheel, the pinion turns and engages notches in the rack to move the front wheels left or right. To operate your telescoping steering wheel, you must first find the lock lever that is usually located near the rim of the steering column or on one side or bottom of the wheel. Once found, push the lever or button to unlock and pull the steering wheel backward to extend it. Then, press the button or lever to lock the steering wheel in place once you have found a comfortable distance.

You can also use the seatback reclining adjustment to fine-tune your driving position. However, you should always remember to test your steering wheel and seat position before you drive your car on a long trip or for an extended period of time.
