How to use neat idea cubes as rabbit cages

Are you planning to buy a cage for your rabbit, but find the cost of a regular rabbit cage a bit expensive? I had a similar problem in the past. I asked some of my friends who have rabbits for advice and they said I should try making my own rabbit cage using Neat Idea Cubes or NICs.

NICs are wired squares that are used to make cubes. Cubes are usually stacked side by side and on top of each other to serve as an inexpensive means of storage space. The idea piqued my interest because buying and assembling these cage-shaped cubes would cost me much less than buying a regular cage.

The first thing to do if you want to build a NIC cage is to buy the NIC. These can be found at stores like Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club. You also need to buy a roll of electrical tape that you will use to join the cubes together. The package comes with connectors, but these do not hold the hub well enough.

You also need to buy some flooring, so that your rabbit doesn’t keep getting into the holes of your cage to grill. Make sure you buy enough racks so that the cage you build is at least four times the size of your rabbit when it grows up. This may take a bit of guesswork if your rabbit is still young. But bigger is always better.

Note that you will also need to purchase a latch that you can install on one of the grills. This grill will serve as the cage door. It would be best to have one or two people to help you while you build your cage. The cage will seem shaky at first, but it will be solid once you’ve finished tying down all the racks and laying down the floor securely.

If you are looking to buy affordable and reliable rabbit cages, you should start shopping for and assembling NICs now.
