Leupold Scopes: American Rifle Scopes Authority

Leupold & Stevens is occupying the leading position in the world market for scopes for hunting rifles. How can this be explained? Leupold riflescopes are of the highest quality and reliability, performing flawlessly in the most demanding conditions.

Leupold riflescopes are all about quality.

Leupold made their first rifle scope in 1947. Since then, all of their scopes have come with a lifetime warranty and this is the best proof of reliability for Leupold products. Generally, most warranties work if you’re the original owner, but for the Leupold it doesn’t matter. Everyone is entitled to fair treatment. That was the mission of a company when it started producing telescopic sights. The same principles we see today at Leupold & Stevens.

Leupold will repair or replace any of its telescopic sights if it fails. The maximum repair time is 5 days, but it usually doesn’t take more than a couple of days (plus shipping time).

Each product produced is subject to strict quality control. Leupold riflescopes are tested for strength on a special machine that simulates intensity during firing. Each reach is tested during the intensity of 750g. During factory testing, it must withstand 5,000 cycles to ensure maximum durability and reliability.

Leupold & Stevens want to be sure that their scopes will not fail while hunting. According to them, no other company subjects its products to such severe testing.

Optical Manufacturer of 2013

All hunters and even professional shooters agree with the quality of these scopes. E.g. Leupold & Stevens is the 2013 Eyewear Manufacturer of the Year by the National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers (NASGW).

To get this manufacturer award you must be the best in the following criteria: distribution policy, marketing, sales and promotion; logistics and operations; support for the industry “That award is very important because it comes from professionals – people who buy, sell and use our products” – said the vice president of marketing, Andy York.

Leupold VX-6 riflescopes

The range of scopes manufactured by Leupold has expanded significantly in 2013. All major global manufacturers have rifle scopes with a 6:1 zoom ratio.

Today, the Leupold VX-6 series includes ten models: 1-6×24 CDS, 1-6×24 CDS illuminated reticle, 2-12×42 CDS, 2-12×42 CDS illuminated reticle, 3-18×44 CDS side focus, 3-18×44 reticle Illuminated Side Focus CDS, 3-18×50 Side Focus CDS, 3-18×50 Side Focus CDS Illuminated, 4-24×52 Side Focus, 4-24×52 Side Focus CDS.

CDS stands for Custom Dial System which allows you to make quick ballistic adjustments for specific loads, conditions and calibers. It is very easy to change dials with ¼ MOA click increments. Side Focus allows you to make parallax adjustments (focus your scope) while looking through the scope. Both the 1-6×24 and 2-12×24 CDS Illuminated Reticle riflescopes include metric, so you can change the dials in 1cm click increments.

Leupold VX-6 riflescopes are manufactured with Quantum Optical System and Xtended Twilight Lens System technology that provide high image brightness and contrast. The manufacturer uses environmentally friendly, lead-free glass compositions to minimize wavefront error and increase resolution. Images are sharp in any light condition, even at dawn and dusk.

To implement the Xtended twilight lens system, Leupold uses different specific coatings on each lens of its riflescopes to optimize the transmission of low-light wavelengths. The human eye is the most sensitive to green wavelengths. All manufacturers usually quote percentage of light transmission in this spectrum. However, in twilight conditions, blue/violet light replaces green light. Your eye does not see much light from the blue/violet spectrum. If your scope cuts too short, you won’t be able to see anything.

Therefore, the Xtended Twilight lens system uses a lens coating that transmits maximum light across the blue/violet spectrum without sacrificing light transmission in the visual spectrum. As a result, Leupold riflescopes give you images with higher definition and luminance than any other riflescope.

VX-6 models have reticles with illuminated extra-light fire dot. Hunter can adjust the brightness from 0 to 12. The motion detector turns off the reticle illumination if your rifle does not move within 5 minutes. He also turns on the illumination with the first swing of his rifle.

In 1947, Leupold engineers were the first to begin pumping air out of assembled rifle scopes and fitting dry nitrogen gas in its place. They did this to prevent the inner surfaces of the lenses from fogging up. Today, the specialists at Leupold found another, even better method to avoid possible condensation on the inner surfaces of the lenses: instead of a nitrogen gas, they pump a mixture of inert gases, argon and krypton.

Leupold VX-R and HOG scopes

Leupold VX-R riflescopes have a fiber optic LED system that allows the use of a daylight illuminated reticle. In addition, this technology ensures maximum light transmission and reticle contrast in low light conditions. There is a bright spot within your sight that is perfectly visible in daylight. At the same time, it is not too bright in low light conditions. Leupold is the only riflescope manufacturer to offer fiber optic LED technology in combination with the motion detector.

The Leupold VX-R comes in four reticle variations: Fire Dot Duplex, Fire Dot Circle, Fire Dot 4, and Ballistic Fire Dot. The dot on the cross lights up after power on. The rest of the grid remains off. This allows for quick and accurate aiming.

Leupold HOG scopes were created exclusively for passionate boar hunters. The new model in this series was introduced in 2012. It is called the VX-R HOG 1.25-4×20 Fire Dot and combines the advantages of the VX-R and HOG riflescopes. The Fire Dot Pig Plex reticle was created exclusively for this model. This reticle is ideal for terrain and conditions that favor wild boar.

The rifle scopes mentioned above are not all series featuring Leupold scopes. They were mentioned due to some innovations. Leupold has incredibly several models of scopes, which are very popular. There is not enough space to summarize all of them in one article. There is more than enough material to write an entire book.

Today Leupold riflescopes represent the following hunter models: VX-1, VX-2, VX-3, VX-3L, VX-6, VX-R, HOG, FX, Rimfire/Ultralight, Shotgun/Muzzleloader, Handgun, Competition, Crossbow, Prismatic, rifleman.

In the tactical scope segment, Leupold offers the following models: Mark 6, VX-R Patrol, Delta Point Reflex Sights, Mark 4 CQ/T, Mark 4 ER/T, Mark 4 HAMR, Mark 4 LR/T, Mark 4 MR/T , Mark 8, Mark AR and Tactical Prismatic.
