Cartoons, a brief introduction

What is a cartoon? A caricature is a drawing, a simple example of creative thinking and a perception of reality and dream. By drawing cartoons, one improves creative abilities.

Cartoons represent almost all aspects of life; they can be humorous, serious or erotic. In a few lines, the cartoonist is capable of capturing the whole idea that he wants to convey, of observing and exaggerating the features of the characters.

People have always associated cartoons with fun and childhood, because children love cartoons, love drawings and like to see them move on the screen or enjoy adults reading comics to them. This opens the way for children’s creativity.

Political cartoons are special cartoons that represent current political events with humor and originality.

Political cartoons are considered historical sources just like newspapers, paintings, journals, and documents. These types of cartoons communicate political messages about events and people of the time through images. Some cartoons do this simply to comment on political events and make fun, other cartoons are evidence of the efforts of the people and the government to influence the people.

The universal truth is that most cartoons are drawn to make people laugh. They make normally serious politicians look ridiculous. By exaggerating situations and characters they become funny and daring; they ‘say’ things that people wouldn’t dare say out loud. Vignettes are usually made up of two elements: caricature (a drawing that makes an individual funny because of their appearance) and illusion (something added by cartoonists but that is not real, but serves to fake a funny situation).

However, there are some cartoons that aren’t meant to be funny, they’re deadly serious.

However, cartoons pack an punch, and that’s why they’re memorable.
