Sail through the sunny state of Florida

Making Splashes in Florida

A swimming record at 64 years old! Yes, that is what happened in September 2013 when swimmer Diana Nyad made history. She became the first person to swim the distance from Cuba to Florida (110 miles), and that too without using a shark cage. She took approximately 53 hours to reach Florida. Florida shores always have great stories of bravery!

To get started with navigation

You may not be interested in swimming in the Florida ocean like Diana, but you can still go boating. It’s great if you already have one! If you don’t have one, you can easily get one for yourself. There are plenty of boats in Florida! In January of this year, ‘The 40th Annual Stuart Boat Show’ made waves among boat lovers. The show was held at four different locations, including HMY’S Waterway Marina in Florida. More than 500 boats of various sizes and shapes were on display, both in and out of the water. It was truly a wonderful weekend gala event for the visitors.

Best places to sail in Florida:

  • The huge and fascinating 125-mile stretch from Biscayne National Park to Key West. It is a great place for boaters to cruise smoothly while enjoying the wonderful views.
  • Tampa Bay. It is the largest estuary in Florida and a favorite anchorage spot due to its restaurants and hotels. Another beautiful place for a boating and family outing is Egmont Key.
  • The Emerald Coast is a place where nature has poured out all its beauty and treasures. Visitors can experience some great deep sea fishing here. The town in the Destin area is called ‘The Luckiest Fishing Town in the World!

Each year, thousands of boaters flock to Florida’s shores for travel, recreation, and business. In addition to sailing, they go fishing, diving, snorkeling or just having fun sunbathing on the stunning beaches.

Tips for safe boating, water sports and fishing:

Whether you’re sailing for the first time or an experienced boater, it’s important to be smart at sea. Lack of awareness and carelessness can cause mishaps. Here are some tips that can help you:

  • Avoid taking unnecessary risks and practice safe navigation. Don’t stray too far and keep a safe distance from other boaters, fishermen and divers. It is the best way to avoid collisions.
  • Try to use reef mooring buoys if possible. Or, anchor only in sandy areas to stay away from corals and seagrasses; these can become entangled with your anchor and chain.
  • Operate your boat at low speeds, especially in diving areas.

You may want to have all the exciting experiences on your boat or you may need one for business use. Buying a new boat could be an expensive proposition. You can search for more affordable options on reputable car auction websites. It’s an easy and convenient process to register, choose and bid. These sites sell salvage boats that have been damaged due to storms, collisions, or other reasons, and can be repaired to sail again. So get ready to make a splash!
