The Variety of Contemporary RC Trucks for Sale

RC trucks for sale on the market today come in a bewildering variety. Some are simply toys, but others are designed to allow their owners to participate in a variety of activities. Some are relatively inexpensive, while others require a substantial cash investment. Whatever the interests of a prospective owner, a truck can be found to suit them.

How RC Trucks Work

control

Radio waves in the 27 or 49 megahertz frequency range provide control. Many manufacturers offer the same truck in both versions, so more than one can be operated at the same time without interference. Some even provide specific information about the portion of the belt used, allowing multiple trucks to be used at once. The radio waves come from a handheld transmitter. The exact number of control switches varies depending on the complexity of the unit. Simple toys have a single switch that allows you to choose between “forward” or “reverse” – the power switch is on the truck itself. More complex transmitters can send a model in a straight line or either way forward or backward.

power plant

Most RC trucks for sale as toys have electric motors, usually a separate unit for propulsion and one for steering. The motors are powered by nickel-cadmium, lithium polymer, or nickel metal hydride batteries. In all but the simplest units, the batteries are rechargeable.

Other models, called nitro trucks, are powered by glow plugs that actually supply fuel to an engine. These units can run longer without refueling and the refueling process is quicker than with a comparable electric truck. The top speed of a nitro truck is higher, but it has less acceleration than an electric model.

At the high end, some models have engines that burn gasoline, although it’s usually not the same blend used in large cars. These use motors similar to those in power garden tools such as trimmers or clippers. The actual fuel they use is usually a mixture of gasoline and oil.

Suspension

Many trucks for sale, particularly at the lower end of the range, are designed to operate only on smooth, level surfaces. They work wonderfully on hard floors or driveways, but can have problems on lawns or even on some types of carpet. The most advanced models are intended for off-road use. Dedicated modelers can customize the suspension to choose springs, shock absorbers, and perhaps other components specific to a particular application.

Things to do with RC trucks

collect

Some RC trucks for sale are modeled after specific full-size vehicles. Collectors can have shelves full of different units. Some collections cover the entire spectrum of historic or contemporary trucks, while others specialize in some part of the industry.

Careers

RC trucks in many classes are raced competitively. There is even an international organization that provides standards and regulations. The International Federation of Model Car Racing sets the standards and also organizes championship competitions.

Models that actually work can be fascinating to look at, and RC trucks are no exception. Whether owners are kids racing their vehicles down a driveway or dedicated hobbyists at organized races or collector shows, these trucks deliver a lot of fun for the price. To get started, simply select from the wide range of RC trucks on sale today.
